Ethernet communication
All CPU modules are equipped with an Ethernet interface that supports the Siemens S7 protocol and various terminal connections:
- Can be used as a program download port (using ordinary network cable)
- Communication with the SMART LINE touch screen, supporting up to 8 devices.
- Communicate with multiple Ethernet devices through the switch to realize rapid data interaction, including 8 active GET/PUT connections and 8 passive GET/PUT connections.
- Open Ethernet communication, supports TCP, UDP, ISO_on_TCP communication protocols, supports 8 active and 8 passive connections.
PROFIBUS communication
The EM DP01 extension module enables the S7-200 SMART CPU to be connected to a PROFIBUS communication network as a PROFIBUS-DP slave. The PROFIBUS-DP slave address can be set via a rotary switch on the module. The module supports any PROFIBUS baud rate between 9600 baud and 12M baud, with a maximum of 244 input bytes and 244 output bytes.

Serial communication
The S7-200 SMART CPU modules all have an integrated RS485 interface for communication with third-party devices such as frequency converters, touch panels, etc. If additional serial ports are required, they are available. If an additional serial port is required, this can be realized by expanding the CM01 signaling board, which supports RS232/RS485 free conversion.
The serial port supports the following protocols:
- Modbus RTU
- USS
- Free-port communication with the host computer
With PC Access SMART, the operator can easily read the data from the S7-200 SMART via the host computer for device monitoring or data archiving. (PC Access SMART is a customized OPC server protocol developed for data interaction between the S7-200 SMART and the host computer).
