The S7-200 SMART CPU provides three open-loop motion control methods:
- Pulse String Output (PTO) : Built into the CPU for speed and position control. This feature provides pulse train output only, direction and limit control is provided through the application program using I/O integrated in the PLC or provided by expansion modules. See Pulse Output PLS instruction.
- Pulse Width Modulation (PWM): Cyclic control of speed, position, or load built into the CPU. If the PWM output is configured, the CPU fixes the cycle time of the output and programmatically controls the pulse duration or load cycle. The speed or position of the application can be controlled by changing the pulse duration. See Pulse Output PLS instruction.
- Axis of Motion: Built into the CPU for speed and position control. This feature provides a single pulse string output with integrated direction control and disable outputs, also includes programmable inputs, and provides multiple modes of operation including automatic reference point search.
PWM and Motion Control Wizard Setup
To simplify the use of bit control functions in your application, STEP 7- Micro/WINSMART provides a bit control wizard that can help you fully configure PWM and PTO in a few minutes. The wizard generates bit control commands that you can use to dynamically control speed and position in your application.The PWM wizard sets up the PWMx_RUN subroutine frame for editing based on the number of PWM pulses selected by the user. The Motion Control Wizard provides settings for up to 3-axis pulse outputs with adjustable pulse rates from 20 Hz to 100 kHz.
Motion Control Monitoring
To assist the user in the development of a motion control program, STEP 7- Micro/WIN SMART provides a Motion Control Panel. The operation, configuration and envelope configuration settings make it easy to monitor the operation of the motion control functions from the start-up and test phases of the development process.
- Using the Motion Control Panel, you can verify that the motion control functions are wired correctly, adjust configuration data and test each movement envelope.
- Display the current speed, position, and direction of bit control operations, as well as the status of input and output LEDs (except pulse LEDs).
- View and modify configuration settings for bit control operations stored in the CPU module.
