Range of applications
In this case, the SIMATIC S7-300 is used for innovative system solutions in manufacturing processes, especially in the automotive industry, in mechanical engineering in general and in the continuous production of special machine construction and machines (OEM) in particular, as well as in plastics processing, the packaging industry, the food and beverage industry, and process engineering.
- As a versatile automation system, the S7-300 is the ideal solution for applications that require a flexible design for centralized and local configuration.
- For applications that require special robustness due to environmental conditions.
Especially in post-processing, the S7-300 can be used in the following industries:
- Automotive industry
- General mechanical engineering
- Special machine construction
- Series mechanical engineering, OEM
- Plastics processing
- Packaging industry
- Food and beverage industry
- Process engineering
- Fast counting/fairs with direct access to hardware counters
- Simple positioning for direct control of MICROMASTER frequency static inverters
- PID-Regulation points with integrated function blocks
- Thanks to the processing speed, the CPU can realize very short machine cycle times.
- The CPUs of the S7-300 series offer the right solution for every application, the customer only has to pay for the performance actually required for the specific task.
- The S7-300 is based on a modular configuration and does not require slot rules for I/O modules.
- A wide range of modules are available for centralized configuration and distributed configuration with the ET 200M.
- The integrated PROFINET interface enables simple networking of the controller and easy data exchange with other operation and management levels.
- Narrow module widths allow for compact module designs or small control cabinets.
- The ability to integrate powerful CPUs with Industrial Ethernet/PROFINET interfaces, integrated process functions or fail-safe design avoids additional investments.
Design and functionality
The innovative design of the desktop CPU S7-300 allows space-saving and modular configuration. In addition to the modules, only one DIN mounting rail is required to fix the modules and rotate them into place. This results in a robust and EMC-compatible design.
The build-as-you-go backplane bus can be extended by simply plugging in additional modules and bus connectors. The extensive S7-300 series can be used for both centralized expansion and distributed structures with ET 200M; thus, cost-effective spare parts control is achieved.
Expansion options
If more than eight modules are required for an automation task, the controller (CC) of the S7-300 can be extended using an expansion unit (EU). Up to 32 modules can be on the shelf, 8 more on each expansion unit. The interface module (IM) handles the communication between the individual racks simultaneously. The CC/EUs can also be installed at long distances from each other (up to 10 m long) if the plant covers a wide area.
This allows large configurations of 256 I/O in single-level structures and up to 1024 I/O in multilevel structures. 65536 I/O connections are possible in distributed configurations with PROFIBUS DP (up to 125 more stations, e.g. ET200M connected via IM153). The slots are freely addressable, so no slot rules are required.
The wide range of S7-300 modules can also be used in distributed automation solutions. The ET 200M I/O system, which has the same architecture as the S7-300, can be connected not only to PROFIBUS but also to PROFINET via interface modules.
