Easy installation Sensors/actuators are connected via front connectors. The following connection types are available:
- Screw-type terminal blocks
- Spring-loaded terminal blocks
- Quick connection (insulation piercing) After replacing the module, the connector is simply plugged into the new module of the same type and the original wiring is retained. The coding of the front connectors prevents errors from occurring.
- Quick Connections Connecting SIMATIC TOP is easier and faster (not the on-board I/O of a compact CPU). Pre-assembled front-end connectors with individual cable cores and complete plug-in modular systems with front-end connector modules, connecting cables and terminal boxes are available.
- The large number of channels in the assembly density modules enables space-saving design of the S7-300. Modules with 8 to 64 channels per module (digital) or 2 to 8 channels per module (analog) can be used.
- Simple parameterization The modules are configured and parameterized using STEP 7 and do not require inconvenient conversion settings. The data is stored centrally, and if a module is changed, the data is automatically transferred to the new module, avoiding any setup errors. No software upgrade is required when using a new module. Design and Functionality
Many different digital and analog modules provide inputs/outputs exactly according to the requirements of each task. Digital and analog modules differ in terms of the number of channels, voltage and current ranges, electrical isolation, diagnostics and alarm functions. In all module ranges mentioned here, SIPLUS components are available for the extended temperature range -25... 60°C and hazardous air/condensation.
Diagnostics, interrupts
Many modules also monitor the signal acquisition (diagnostics) and the signals coming back from the process (process interruptions). This makes it possible to react immediately to errors in the process (e.g. broken wires or short circuits) as well as to any process events (e.g. rising or falling edges on digital inputs). The response of the controller can be easily programmed using STEP 7.
Specialized modules
For testing and simulation, an analog module can be inserted into the S7-300, which simulates the encoder signals by converting and indicating the output signals with LEDs.
The module can be inserted anywhere (slot rules do not have to be observed). The virtual module reserves a slot for an unconfigured signaling module. When the module is installed later, neither the mechanical configuration nor the address assignment of the entire configuration is changed.
